Df Player Pro resitstor

On a later update they said a Pro can be used saving the need for the SD Card etc which is good, My question is this on the mini a 1k Resister is specified (see image). Is this required on the Pro also ? They say its needed on the Mini in order for it to work from the TX / RX of the Nano ?
I am new to all this and hense the question.
