DFRobot DRI0027 Digital Servo Shield for Arduino

Hello,

I am looking to build a hexapod which uses 18 servos. Originally I had my eye on the Dynamixel XL430's, but I found the DFRobot DRI0027 Digital Servo Shield for Arduino, which mentions AX-12 servos in the description. 

I may choose to simply use AX-12's instead, but I am wondering if this shield can be used on other types of servos besides the AX-12?
