USE OF 8448 GRAPHIC LCD SHIELD

I'm new to the Arduino concept and am trying to get my head around programming etc.
I can display text (strings), but I'm having trouble displaying sensor values etc.
How do I display the value of a pot (AD1) on the 8448 LCD shield? I'm not sure how to use the functions in the 8448 library. Is there any reference material on the library and its functions?
