Dud Ardunio UNO board in kit
petermaddin 2021-03-18 00:40:36 2237 Views19 Replies I started with the blink exercise. I plugged the DFRobot ardinuo UNO into a USB port and in the device manager I get Unknown USB device (device descriptor request failed). I have unplugged it and plugged it back in. Sometimes I get in the device manager Ports (COM and LPT) a port i.e. Arduino Uno (COM6) but most of the time I get Unkown USB device error.
When I get a port to use I get this error
Using Port : COM6
Using Programmer : arduino
Overriding Baud Rate : 115200
avrdude: ser_open(): can't set com-state for "\\.\COM6"
Have I got a dud board? I have a UNO from Adeept and that works OK 100% of the time (lucky to have this on hand). Disappointed so far. Also no idea what programmer to use. For the Adeept I used AVR ISP.
Quite disappointed. Will continue with the kit using my other UNO. Hopefully the other components are OK.
The packaging and cards are very nice but if the main board does not work it leaves a sour taste. Hopefully this is just one of those things.

2021-03-24 23:24:07 Got an older Toshiba notebook out of the cupboard and got it up to date with windows (its been a while since it was last used).
Installed the Arduino IDE.
Downloaded and installed the DFRobot driver. The install finished and status was "Ready to Use"
Plugged the DFRobot UNO into a USB port and . . . nothing.
Rebooted and plugged the DFRobot into a USB port and . . . . nothing.
Plugged the Adeept UNO in and this was recognized straight away.
At least I did not have waste time by updating the Arduino IDE for DFRobot boards.
I think what I have really is a dud.

petermaddin 2021-03-24 06:35:22 Got the installer to work (by double clicking on it). Says it installed ok and status is Ready to use.
However the DFRobot UNO is not recognized by the device manager.
Not sure why. I do not not have the problem with the Adeept UNO.
Might try it on a different machine.

petermaddin 2021-03-24 03:32:17 Any update on the protected RAR file containing the driver. If everyone needs this, I can't understand why nobody has mentioned this or perhaps they have under a different post.

petermaddin 2021-03-23 05:07:57 Apparently the rar download file containing the driver is password protected. Can you please give me the password or supply a rar that is not password protected.

petermaddin 2021-03-19 21:52:19 I will wait till March 22 for the English version to try this. I can't read Mandarin/Cantonese (would be nice if I could). Google translate fails. Where can you download the driver?
This must be a common problem. I am assuming that it will update the Arduino IDE.

petermaddin 2021-03-18 18:10:52 I'm sorry, DFRobot's UNO needs to install the driver developed by DFRobot itself. The English document of the specific installation method will be online on March 22. There is currently a Chinese document, if you want to use UNO as soon as possible, you can refer to this Chinese document.
