ANALOG SOUND LEVEL METER - MOVE MICROPHONE

We are using your analog sound level meter in an embed equipment and therefore we need to protect the card. Due to the design, it is quite hard to have a protection that is lower than the microphone, which is why we would like to move it a little. Should everything be OK this way? Or is there any underlying complexity that we don't know and should prevent us to move the mic?
