BLE-lin v4.0 not lighting when connected to the Gravity:IO expansion motor shield for arduino

I have been trying to test the BLE-link V4.0 but it can't even power on when connected to the Gravity:IO expansion motor shield xbee slot and plugged onto the Arduino Uno. The link and pair LEDS are not going on. I don't know what to do since it doesn't power on. Any help will come a long way.
