DFPLAYER PRO isPlaying() always returns 0

I am using a DFPlayer Pro connected to the DFRobot DFRduino uno and I am having trouble with the commands in the arduino library.
When I use the command isPlaying(), the return is always 0 regardless of whether the music is ON or OFF. The start() and pause() commands also seem to only toggle, not directly start or pause the song.
Anyone else have issues with the library? The library I have installed is DFRobot_DF1201S v 1.0.2
