If your serial monitor freezes at the Set Baud Rate step, it may be due to insufficient power supply (this product requires 7~12V for the Arduino) or the on-board jumper caps are not connected correctly (TX-D8, RX-D7)

What are the power supply requirements . . . other boards with this chip require external power in addition to voltage supplied from the Arduino.
