Hello, I want to use Kit0139 hydrostatic sensor to measure the depth of effluent in a cesspit. Sludge sinks to the bottom with less contaminated water above it. Does any have experience of this? Can the sensor be lowered into the sludge and still function?

Thanks

Hi,

KIT0139 has a 316L stainless steel diaphragm, 304 stainless steel housing, and IP68 rating, so it can function in sludge (or viscous liquids). However:

1. Thick sludge/large solids may block the air tube or cover the diaphragm (impacting pressure transmission/accuracy, or damaging the sensor).

2. It measures total hydrostatic pressure at its position (total depth from sensor to liquid surface, not just "clean water" depth).

3. Install tips: Mount it in a stable area (use a guard/guide rod to keep it above thick bottom sludge, avoid agitation).

4. Density correction: Default code uses pure water density (1.0)—adjust for sludge-water mixture density (refer to the DENSITY_GASOLINE example in code).

5. Maintenance: Clean air tube/diaphragm regularly to keep them clear.

Conclusion: KIT0139 works in cesspit sludge if air tubes are unblocked and the diaphragm is not covered. Test first for thick/clumpy sludge, and adjust density settings for accuracy.

Thank you very much for your helpful and comprehensive reply. What do you think about enclosing the sensor in a condom with some clean liquid in it?
