I would like to record images and video of insects that are about 10-15cm away from the lens.

Many ESP32 camera modules allow slight manual focus adjustment.
Carefully rotate the lens (it may be glued). Refocus closer. Re-secure with thread locker.
You may need to swap or adjust lenses on ESP32 boards for better focus control.
