How to read raw PPG signal from SEN0344 or SEN0518

We have a first year hardware project for our bachelor of engineering students where they develop their own heart rate variability analyzer using Raspberry Pi Pico, MicroPython and heart rate sensor. We are aiming to update our sensors and are reviewing if SEN0344 or SEN0518 could be used for that purpose.

As far as I understand, on both of them (the latest version) there is V8520 MCU between the external I2C interface and MAX30102, so MAX3012 cannot be controlled directly. Meaning that only the preprogrammed (in V8520) measurements of heart rate (BMP), SpO2 (%) and temperature (degC) can be measured, but not the raw red or IR photoplethysmographic PPG signals. Is it so or is there any way to get the raw PPG signal as we need them in order to calculate peak-to-peak intervals and thus heart rate variabilities?
