How to connect encoder to motor

ANd am wondering which motor to get to connect to it. I realize that a coupler is used to connect the encoder axle to the motor shaft. However all the motors here have only one end of the drive shaft exposed.
I need to use an absolute encoder because I need to know where the motor is ‘pointing’ when it is powered on.

This encoder could help to know the angle rotated, but it still depends on how you want to place the encoder and what kind of encoder to have. robert.chen
