Shortsighted URM37 with range of only 50"

I have a URM37 that is only ranging on object 50" and closer.  This is well inside of what it is supposed to deliver, and of course, to what I need!  I am not sure what to look for to correct this!  It is very accurate up to that point but beyond returns 338 inches.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
Wisar

Thanks for the hints above as I think that my issue may well be a combination of leads and power.  My application is a robot based on the Explorer PCB and I cobbled together the leads from the URM to a patchboard and from there to the Arduino.  On top of that I had been testing with some not fully charged batteries!  With batteries more nearly full I am getting readings out to 17 feet!  Go figure.  I will clean up the leads and see if I can skate by on less than full batteries.

Thanks again,
Wisar

Could you tell me a little more about your application. There are certain conditions that could be affecting your sensor.
not enough power could be causing problems, baudrate, jumper wire quality, also, the environment in which you are using it, and if there are near by objects that could be causing erroneous readings.

Have you read this article about different URM sensors?
