GPS/GPRS/GSM Shield V3.0 (Arduino Compatible) can´t make it

Ok, sorry to bother you guys, but Im having a bit of a problem, I recently aquired this module
GPS/GPRS/GSM Shield V3.0 (Arduino Compatible)

I strictly followed the wiki:

https://www.dfrobot.com/wiki/index.php/GPS/GPRS/GSM_Module_V3.0_(SKU:TEL0051)

and here are the "but"s:

1) before buying I read about band and frequencies, the shield support Band 850/900/18001900MHz, Im from Argentina, here I have 3 companies, all of them working on those band frequencies, I tried with SIM cards from all the 3 companies (wich all of them are 850/1900 Mhz, but I still have the STAT and NET led on OFF, and I havent been able to "see" them go ON a single time.

2) I strictly uploaded (following each step) sketchs from the wiki, still, nothing, not driving the board through USB nor the Arduino, I would like to remark, that I followed the S1, S2, UART selection positions in every step.

But still, neither the STAT, nor the NET led go on once.

I tested the sketchs on different boards:

a) Arduino UNO

b) Arduino DUE

I powered it with USB and simultaneously with 2 different power supplies (for power comsuption reasons):

i) 5V 2Amps power supply (connected directly to the 5V pins on the board

ii) 12V 1.5Amps thourh the power cpnnector on the arduino board.

Still, the very same results.

I would like some help here, I tested the boards with several shields, and the boards (and shields) work perfectly fine)

I also connected it directly to the PC through a FTDI232  justy to test the comunication, but still, nothing (I manually drived the D3-D5 pins), neither response nor leds going on.

Im kinda in a ded end here. Any suggestions, amd I doing something wrong??

nevertheless, thank you for your time... waiting for suggestion or answers that may help me.

2013-06-20 13:09:48 Hey N4rf,

Cool! that gives me some really nice starting points. I am wondering if there are less GPS satellites around my self, any idea how to check that?

BTW, did you just directly connect the module to the serial and operate with this software? or you have to configure it to work with it?

2013-06-19 14:32:23 btw,

How long did it take you to get GPS working? i mean, how many seconds to output some data? I have not tried much, but sometimes my GPS signal is not good in my location. I think best without any buildings around..

2013-06-19 14:29:41 haha, great news then!

Yeah the board has it's own power regulator so if you want to manually feed power you need to connect to Vin instead of 5V. And give it enough juice, i believe it's range is same as arduino so something like 7V would be good.

Congrats!

2013-06-19 12:36:35 OK, I think you can mark this as solved.  :) :)

What did I do, you may ask..

Well, as soon as I read about those blinkin leds, I was like "what the heck.. never seen them blinkn"..

I grabed my multimeter, my pocket oscilloscope, the schematic, and started to follow each pin, til I found out the "vbat" pin.

At first, I thought I could power the board throught the 5v/GND pins on the borad, like I do most of the times with other shields, but NO! it wont power up, I mean, you may get the power LED go on, but it does not come from there.

Like I said, I manually drove the D3-D5 pins while testing the shield, and in one of the many tries I did, I forgot to drive them, what happened? the power led didnt go on. at first I thought I burned the board. then, pluged in the wires, and was working.. my reaction was.. "hmm.. wth"... Following pads with my oscilloscope, I found the vbat wasnt getting any power!!!

As soon as I fixed that (re soldering the pad and the battery), and powered the shield with my Seeeduino v2.21 and an externel power supply (12V/1.5Amp).. I GOT THOSE LEDS TO BLINK!

TA DAA!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Now its working perfectly fine! :D GPS working great, and GSM shield making phone calls and sendind sms... :D  ;D ;D ;D

:D Como va Jose!?.. Renegando un poco jejeje, viendo si logro hacer andar esto!

Should the NET & STAT leds blink as soon as I power up (reset) the board?? Because I havent seen then blink once, the only led that goes on, is the POWER led. The other 2, I can assure you, Ive never seen them blink, neither on power up nor reseting the board. I will try in te outdoors, but Im worried about those leds having to blink as soon as I reset (power up) the board.

2013-06-18 21:00:40 Hi N4rf! como va eso!?!

Ok, well.. looks like you tried and tested quite a bunch, looking good. While trying the SMS code in the wiki, after you boot the board the NET and STAT never blinked? Sometimes after you flash the code, reseting the board is good. did GPS never blinked NET or STAT led's as well?

Have you checked as well the GMS  GPS switch?
I would suggest you to try on a different location just in case, in my case i had quite a lot of trouble to get a decent signal on one of my providers inside some rooms, while no problem outdoors.
