Introduction

Gravity: I/O Expansion Shield for Pyboard is a multifunctional expansion board designed specifically for the pyboard v1.1 development platform. The compact interface adapter simplifies hardware integration by providing standardized connectors for numerous sensors and electronic modules from the Gravity series. Color‑coded ports enable fast plug‑and‑play connections without soldering or complex wiring. This rapid‑prototyping interface board exposes digital, analog, serial, and I2C interfaces in an organized layout, helping developers build MicroPython projects and embedded prototypes more efficiently while maintaining reliable signal routing and stable power distribution.

Note: When installing the expansion shield onto a pyboard motherboard, the wire terminal must align with the same side as the USB port. Signal voltage on all pins is limited to 0–3.3V because the pyboard operates at 3.3V and does not support 5V analog input. High‑current devices such as servos or motors should connect to ports X1–X4 with an external power supply and the power switch set to VIN to prevent motherboard damage. Ports X1–X4 support selectable 3.3V or VIN power, while remaining ports supply 3.3V only.

Plug‑and‑Play Gravity Ecosystem Compatibility

This pyboard expansion interface integrates standardized Gravity connectors that support a wide range of plug‑and‑play sensors and electronic modules. Color‑coded connectors simplify orientation and wiring, reducing setup errors during rapid hardware assembly. Direct compatibility with Gravity ecosystem modules allows quick integration of environmental sensors, motion detectors, communication modules, and actuators. Such streamlined connectivity significantly reduces development time in embedded experiments, enabling efficient prototyping and educational experimentation without soldering or complex cable management.

Rich I/O Expansion for Flexible Hardware Integration

A comprehensive collection of interfaces enables connection of multiple peripherals simultaneously. The expansion board provides 12 digital ports, 8 analog ports, one serial interface, and two I2C communication ports arranged in a clean and accessible layout. This high‑density I/O breakout architecture supports robotics control, sensor networks, and MicroPython experimentation. Organized pin distribution ensures straightforward wiring when integrating displays, actuators, environmental sensors, or communication modules into embedded development projects.

External Power Support for High‑Current Components

An onboard external power input and selectable 3.3V/VIN switch allow the hardware expansion shield to drive demanding peripherals such as motors and servos. Dedicated X1–X4 ports support higher current loads when external power is supplied, while an onboard 3.3V LDO regulator delivers stable voltage for multiple connected modules. This power architecture ensures reliable operation in robotics builds, actuator control systems, and multi‑sensor development environments.
