Guidance for Testing DFPlayer Functionality

I am building an audiometer for my college senior project. One of my main components is a DFPlayer. My group is having a hard time determining whether it is working. The light turned on briefly once, and other times the player has heated up. Please let us know how to test whether our player is working. We would like to schedule a call with you if possible.

2017-04-15 02:34:25 HI just refer to our wiki and there is a I/O mode of the player mini. You can short connection the I/O pin and GND to play your mp3 files, then what happened?
