Wifi external antenna required for LattePanda V1 ?

Hi everyone, 

my LattePanda V1was delivered with an antenna that (I guess) can be connected to the ANT port on the board...

Is that necessary ?!

I notice that wifi signals detected by the LattePanda are very often quite weak...
