Need to configure DFR1168 Thunderbolt to PCIe for automatic Hotswapping
Neville.Bonwit 2026-01-20 23:32:41 26 Views2 Replies I'm interested in designing your DFR1168 USB4 to PCIe Docking Station into our product:

I have a special control PCB that I want to use to initiate a 'hot swap' action on your DFR1168.
I have read the info online posted here, but it is not clear how I can perform the 'hot swap' action in a programmatic way from my control PCB:

Questions:
1. I assume I put SW1 and SW2 both to position 2 for forced startup/shutdown. Please confirm. 2. If I turn off switch J3/J4, then turn it back on, does it perform a "hot swap" operation on the host computer? 3. If so, how long do I need to have J3/J4 off before I turn it back on? 4. Is there an easy way for my external PCB to "switch" J3/J4 by tying into a special header on the board somewhere? 5. Or do I need to unsolder J3/J4 and solder in my own connection?
Thanks,
Neville
Hi Neville,
yes, SW1 and SW2 should both be set to position 2 for forced startup/shutdown. Toggling J3/J4 off and back on is how the hot-swap is triggered; keeping it off for a few seconds should be enough. There’s no dedicated control header, so you’d need to control J3/J4 externally or remove them and wire in your own switch/control PCB.
