Showing battery/usb charging values on DFR1140

I want to display the state of charge of the battery, 1-6 bars
If USB is powered, I want to display a lightning bolt. inside the battery
I've written the program for another chip (and it (sort of) works but there is no way to directly USB value via any pin. The result is that when it gets to the 3.8-4.2 value range it gets confused and sometimes displays it as battery and sometimes as USB.
Wondering if there is a clean way to do this with the DFR1140?
