5V Metal Proximity Switch: detection area?

Can someone please confirm that the detection area is the crosshair printed on the device? In other words, that the device will detect a metal object placed within 4mm of the crosshair?

(I mean, I assume that is the case. What else could the crosshair mean? But I've assumed incorrectly before!)
