Does the TEL0124 SIM7600CE-T 4G board need 7.4 V to operate or 5V for modem to also operate?
Moss.Berg 2026-10-16 15:53:36 53 Views2 Replies For the TEL0124 SIM7600G-H Shield V2.1, I need to knw if the modem can operate and communicate over micro-USB using only a 5 V, 2.4 A USB charger or if an additional external power is needed? If so, what voltage range and current capacity should be supplied to VIN?
Hi Moss, on the SIM7600G-H Shield (TEL0124): the spec lists Operating Voltage as DC 5V. That said, the Getting Started doc says the modem needs external power — "The module can only work properly when an external power supply is connected", and its hardware list includes a 7.4V battery. The micro-USB port here is a USB device interface for PC driver setup, not a reliable RF supply: LTE TX bursts can spike to about 2A, and 5V through a micro-USB plug drops quickly, so a 5V/2.4A phone charger alone will often give weak/failing network registration. Recommendation: feed the external power terminal instead — the official kit uses a 7.4V battery, so ~5–7.4V there with 2–4A headroom is safe (it's regulated down onboard). For the exact VIN range, confirm against the official datasheet/schematics: https://wiki.dfrobot.com/tel0124/ · Getting Started https://wiki.dfrobot.com/tel0124/docs/22115
Jason.Miao Hello Jason, no battery came with mine. I will try adding an external power source that will give me the added voltage.
