Spidy the spider robot

A while back I took a couple of the DF Robot spider kits and combined them into a steerable chassis as they simply snap together. You simply buy 2 kits and make one as a left side, and the other as a right side, then snap them together after trimming the tabs as shown in the image below showing the bottom of the robot. You can see my video of this robot on the store page for the spider kits, and below. But recently I spontaneously reconfigured that robot as a line follower because I had never seen a walking line follower done before. I was surprised at how well it actually worked out. Because you would think that the stepping motion would cause the line sensors to misread. But that was not the case and it actually finished in the upper 2/3rd of the 28 entries in a recent line following competition without any effort of trying to win with it.

2016-03-10 20:02:06 Yeah those are from a competitor named Inex. I don't think they sell that brand in the US anymore. I used them as I bought them years ago. Plus I've not tried the ones from DF.

I'm in the process of making another of these spider robots as I want to test a different design. If it works good I'll post it.

What line track sensor do you use, it seems not from DFRobot :D
