7" eDP IPS Touch Narrow Bezel Display compatible with the Alpha?

I am planning a project and I am wondering if the 7" eDP IPS Touch Narrow Bezel Display for LattePanda IOTA / LattePanda 3 Delta is compatible with the Latte Panda Alpha? I am selecting the Alpha for a specific reason but the suggested screen is not to my liking with the large bezels.
Will this one work out of the box?

Short answer — probably not gonna work, unfortunately.
That narrow bezel display (FIT1030) is specifically made for the LattePanda IOTA and 3 Delta only. The product page says it pretty clearly. The issue is that the original Alpha uses a different eDP connector design and pinout — the newer displays aren't backward compatible with it.
I ran into something similar when I was looking for a screen for my Alpha. The eDP displays that work with the original Alpha are the older ones like the FIT0551 (7" eDP, 1024x600), but that one's not narrow bezel, so it might not be what you're after.
A couple options that might work for you:
If you're actually using a 2 Alpha (not the original), the FIT0551 is plug and play. But again, not narrow bezel.
If you really want the narrow bezel look, HDMI is probably your best bet on the original Alpha. The HDMI output supports up to 4K, so you've got plenty of screen options. You lose the clean integrated look, but you get way more flexibility on screen choice.
There are also some third-party eDP panels that community members have tested with the Alpha — the wiki mentions a few here. Just a heads up though, DFRobot doesn't provide driver support for those, so you'd be on your own with drivers.
Hope that saves you from buying the wrong screen!
Jason.Miao Thanks Jason,
I really appreciate the detailed response, you've saved me from buying the wrong screen. The Alpha I am planning to buy is the one that is currently available to buy on the website:

Yes, I'm after that sleek narrow-bezel look, so it sounds like HDMI is my realistic route on the original Alpha.
I found this one:

It was used in a build I saw on YouTube on a Mu (the builder made a custom PCB, which is well beyond me for a first build, but it comes with a driver board so I'm hoping I can just run it over HDMI).
Can I check my understanding on power? My understanding is that HDMI only carries the video signal, so the screen needs powering separately, but that the driver board on a screen like this is usually powered over USB (5V), so I could power it from a USB port on the Alpha rather than needing a totally separate supply. Is that right? And roughly how much does a 1080p screen like this draw, I'm trying to work out the hit to my battery runtime since the Alpha and screen would share the battery.
