Problem with Stepper Motor

I am trying to drive this stepper motor with this driver and an Arduino Uno. I'm powering everything with 6xAA batteries for a total of 9V, which is the minimum rating for the stepper driver.
I am using the code linked on the driver wiki, but I cannot get the motor to move. It does make some humming noises and will hold position, but I can never get it to step for any combination of step size selection or current selection. Can anyone help me get the correct configuration of code and DIP settings on the driver? Is my power supply voltage too low? Is this stepper even compatible with this driver?
Thanks for your help.
