Introduction

DFRduino Pro Mini V1.3 (Arduino Pro Mini Compatible) is a compact ATmega328‑based microcontroller board designed for embedded electronics, robotics prototypes, and space‑constrained interactive devices. Operating at 5V with a 16MHz clock, this development board runs the standard Arduino bootloader and can be programmed using common IDE tools. Compared with earlier compact controller boards, this mini embedded controller expands analog input capability while maintaining full compatibility with Arduino Mini pin layouts. A lightweight footprint, flexible programming options, and stable power regulation make this microcontroller module suitable for semi‑permanent installations and integrated hardware projects.

Note: Compared with DFduino Pro Mini V1.2, this V1.3 version reverses the pins of the programming interface.

Expanded Analog Input Capability

This upgraded embedded controller board enhances sensing flexibility by offering eight analog input channels instead of the six available on the standard reference design. Additional analog pins allow more simultaneous sensor connections, making the microcontroller module especially useful in robotics sensing arrays, environmental monitoring systems, and experimental electronics. Despite the increased analog capacity, the board maintains identical digital functionality and full compatibility with existing Arduino Mini layouts, enabling straightforward migration from earlier compact development boards without redesigning connected circuits.

Compact Design for Embedded Installations

A miniature 18×33 mm footprint allows this microcontroller platform to integrate easily into custom enclosures, interactive installations, and long‑term embedded systems. Fourteen digital input/output pins—including six PWM outputs—support motor control, LED driving, and interface communication in robotics or automation projects. The integrated resonator, reset button, and onboard status LEDs provide reliable operation while preserving board simplicity. Because headers are not pre‑soldered, the compact controller board supports flexible wiring approaches such as custom connectors, right‑angle headers, or direct wire soldering.

Flexible Programming and Power Options

This miniature development board is programmed through an external USB‑to‑serial interface, enabling streamlined deployment in permanent hardware builds. Compatible tools include the FTDI Basic Breakout 3.3/5V (Arduino Compatible) and the USB Serial Light Adapter (Arduino Compatible). Either interface supplies both programming communication and USB power. Support for automatic reset and a stable 5V regulator simplifies firmware uploading and ensures dependable performance during development and field operation.

This compact ATmega328 controller board is widely used in robotics controllers, sensor data acquisition systems, interactive installations, and portable electronics prototypes. The small form factor and expanded analog inputs make this microcontroller platform particularly suitable for embedded automation, educational electronics experiments, and integrated device control within STEM Education environments.
