The Fermion BMI323 6DOF IMU Sensor is a compact inertial measurement module built around the Bosch BMI323, combining a 3-axis accelerometer and a 3-axis gyroscope in a 16 mm × 16 mm board. It delivers high-rate acceleration and angular velocity data through an I2C interface, making it suitable for embedded motion sensing, wearable devices, robotics, battery-powered IoT nodes, and compact product prototypes.
With configurable measurement ranges, output data rates up to 6400 Hz, a 2048-byte FIFO buffer, low-power operating modes, and built-in hardware motion detection, this module provides a practical balance of sensing performance, power efficiency, and integration flexibility.
Bosch BMI323 6-Axis Motion Sensing
The BMI323 integrates a 3-axis accelerometer and a 3-axis gyroscope for detecting linear acceleration, angular velocity, tilt, vibration, and motion changes. The accelerometer supports ±2 g to ±16 g measurement ranges, while the gyroscope supports angular-rate ranges from ±125 °/s to ±2000 °/s.
This makes the module suitable for applications such as robot tilt feedback, wearable motion tracking, compact motion controllers, fitness devices, smart home sensors, vibration monitoring, and embedded product evaluation.
High-Speed Data Output with FIFO Buffer
The sensor supports output data rates from 12.5 Hz to 6400 Hz in Normal and High Performance modes, allowing flexible configuration for both low-speed monitoring and high-speed motion capture. The integrated 2048-byte FIFO buffer helps maintain stable data transfer during high-frequency sampling and reduces the risk of data loss when the host controller is processing other tasks.
Hardware Motion Detection for Lower MCU Load
The built-in motion engine can detect common motion events directly on the sensor, including step counting, tap, tilt, free-fall, and activity recognition. Event results can be sent through programmable interrupt pins, allowing the host MCU to stay in a lower-power state until motion is detected.
This hardware-assisted approach is especially useful for battery-powered devices, wearable electronics, portable controllers, and IoT nodes that need continuous motion awareness without constant polling.
Low-Power Operation for Battery-Powered Devices
Multiple operating modes are available, including Sleep, Low Power, Normal, and High Performance. Low Power mode consumes only 356 μA, making the module suitable for systems that require long operating time, motion-triggered wake-up, or periodic movement detection.
Compact Fermion Form Factor for Embedded Integration
The 16 mm × 16 mm PCB is designed for compact embedded applications. The module includes an SH1.0-5P connector for cable-based prototyping and 2.54 mm pin header holes for soldered installation. The default I2C address is 0x69 and can be changed to 0x68 through the onboard address pad.
