Introduction

The Fermion BMI323 Low-Power 6DOF IMU Sensor is a compact 16 × 16 mm breakout for embedded motion sensing and sensor performance evaluation. Its Bosch BMI323 combines a 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope for acceleration, angular velocity, tilt, vibration and motion-change data. Configurable ranges, output data rates up to 6400 Hz, a 2048-byte FIFO and a 356 μA low-power mode make it suitable for wearables, compact controllers, battery-powered IoT nodes and integrated motion products. Arduino library support simplifies evaluation with Arduino-compatible boards, including ESP32.

Choose Fermion when board space, power consumption and direct sensor access matter more than plug-and-play wiring. Choose the Gravity BMI323 version when the project needs I2C/UART, 3.3–5 V compatibility, four selectable addresses, one integrated library or GUI visualization.

Up to 6400 Hz High-Rate Motion Measurement

BMI323 integrates a 16-bit 3-axis accelerometer and 16-bit 3-axis gyroscope. Four accelerometer ranges from ±2 g to ±16 g and five gyroscope ranges from ±125 °/s to ±2000 °/s let developers trade sensitivity for dynamic range, while output data rates up to 6400 Hz support fast gestures, vibration monitoring and compact motion-control products.

Hardware Motion Events and 2048-Byte FIFO

The IMU sensor includes step, tap, tilt, free-fall and activity detection, so the host does not need to derive every event from raw acceleration and angular velocity. A 2048-byte FIFO buffers samples during high-rate acquisition, and two programmable interrupt pins can wake or notify the host only when configured motion conditions occur.

356 μA Low-Power Mode

The IMU detection module draws 720 μA under the listed normal operating condition and only 356 μA in Low Power mode. Together with Sleep, Low Power, Normal and High Performance modes, this allows wearable, portable and motion-triggered products to balance sampling performance against battery life.

Compact 16 × 16 mm PCB for Direct Integration

The BMI323 is implemented on a 16 × 16 mm PCB with 11 mm mounting-hole spacing and 2 mm holes. An SH1.0-5P connector and 2.54 mm pin holes support cable evaluation or soldered installation, while selectable I2C addresses 0x69 and 0x68 and Arduino/Python libraries provide direct access for product integration.
